Chronicles of the Cursed organizers announced they will offer tours of the mysterious sinkhole recently found at the 500 block of West Grand Avenue, despite reports of horrible noises, demonic visions and on at least one occasion, strange animals attacking people.
“There has been much discussion and curiosity about this phenomena,” says Chronicles spokesperson Marc Gionapolitis. “This will give the public a great chance to see it up close.”
Chronicles of the Cursed is a popular haunted house attraction. Due to the recent events, it was unclear whether it would open this year. Local citizens are not happy with the decision.
“Anyone who goes into that sinkhole is in grave danger. Have they no shame?” says Felix Monger, a lawyer from nearby North Carpenter Street and head of the newly formed protest organization, Chicagoans Against Chronicles.
Organizers defend their decision. “Our haunted house is in the same location as the sinkhole,” says Gionapolitis. “It made sense to continue the tradition in a slightly different manner. But there is absolutely no cause for alarm. We have taken all necessary safety precautions.”
Monger says that isn’t good enough. “Four teenager are missing and may be dead. Still, no one will tell us what’s happening. And now they want to sell tickets? We won’t stop until we put an end to this madness.”
The four teenagers, Brina and Felicia McBraid and Anthony and Seymour Wallace, all between 17 and 19 years old, were last seen crawling over a barrier to the sinkhole. Neighbors have offered a reward for information about their whereabouts, but so far have no clues if they are alive or dead. But many fear the worst.
Tours are scheduled to begin October 8th.
